How do I order a custom Joyner Instrument?
The process usually starts with a conversations in person, on the phone, or via email. We talk about your needs and wants so that I can get an idea of whether you want a standard model with custom options or a fully custom instrument. I’ve built everything from a 5 string Baritenor uke, to a concert scale pineapple uke with a whammy bar, so don’t be afraid to ask about a crazy idea you’ve been dreaming about.
Custom Ukes start at $1,200 and can go up depending on wood choice, electronics, and customizations.
Custom Shop options include:
- Specialty top woods for the instrument body
(Koa, maple, walnut etc.) - Hippie sandwich bodies
- Binding on the body or neck
- Specialty solid body wood
- Non standard neck woods
- Custom neck width, string spacings, or number of strings
- Tremolo (whammy bar) systems
- Electronics upgrades, including boutique pickups.
- Hardware upgrades
We also make sure to discuss price at this time. Custom shop instruments typically cost 20-50% more than standard models depending on the options you choose. Once I have a better feel for your needs I typically spend a couple days putting together a proposal for you including the options you have chosen and a timeline. Custom instruments typically take 6-8 weeks to complete, but can take longer depending on options.
When you are ready to get started we ask for a 50% deposit. We will start gathering materials and keep you up-to-date on progress through social media and email so you can follow how your new instrument is progressing. After the last coat of finish goes on we give your instrument a final polish and set up. You can either pick up your new instrument at my studio, meet up a uke Jam, or I can ship your instrument anywhere in the world.
