JI032 Walnut Tenor With Trem

JI032 started with a beautiful black walnut body blank with gorgeous figure running down one side.  I wanted to do something special with this one so I decided to incorporate my new custom designed tremolo system into the bridge, also known as a whammy bar.  I designed this bridge system based on Fender’s classic trem bridge, but customized it for 4 strings and a thinner body.  The whammy bar allows you to momentarily loosen all of the strings, detuning the instrument for a really cool surf rock effect.

I wanted to keep this instrument looking tough, so I chose a nice dark macassar ebony fretboard with a matching headstock overlay mated to a quarter sawn maple neck.  Two custom Warp Core “Joyner Ukulele Soapbar” pickups run through a 3 way selector switch, volume and tone controls to the integrated strap button output jack.  Paired with the whammy bar this setup gives you ultimate control over your ukes voice.  Crank your volume and tone all the way up and overdrive you amp hard for a wicked crunch, or run through the clean channel with the reverb up for surf rock bliss.

If you want an extra special touch on your uke JI032’s whammy bar setup may be the ticket, just be ready to hear “Is that a whammy bar!?” often.
