JI042 – Walnut/Myrtle Double Cut Tenor – SOLD
JI042 was a bit of a passion project for me. I am fascinated by wood and it’s story. I also love my home state of Oregon. When I first started building ukes, my father in law gifted me a beautiful piece of Oregon Myrtlewood. It grows only on the Oregon and northern California coast. I held on to that piece of wood for a long time, never having quite the right project until I found a gorgeous piece of walnut from the Oregon/Idaho border. I decided to pair the two and have a uke body that spanned the entire state.
It was clear from the start that this was going to be a special uke, so I decided to pull out all the stops. A 22 fret W. African Ebony fretboard that is absolutely stunning paired with a walnut headstock overlay and maple neck completes the wood bill. Mike at warp core wound a screaming set of “Joyner Microbucker” Ukulele pickups for this uke and do they every give you a variety of sounds. I wired it up with a twist. Or more precicely a pull. Pull the tone knob out and the humbucking pickups get coil tapped, giving you a single coil sound close to our soapbar pickups.
This uke is extremely versatile. It will push an amp into overdrive harder than any of our other models, but cleans up really beautifully too. It you want a uke that has a story, good looks and killer sound look no further. This is the one.
